ENRILE PRESSED FOR AFP MODERNIZATION FOLLOWING THE CRASH OF PAF C-130

    SENATOR Juan Ponce Enrile today pressed for the modernization of the ill-equipped Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) which he said has been allowed to deteriorate since the 1986 revolution.
    Enrile made the call following the crash of a Philippine Air Force (PAF) C-130 transport plane yesterday at a sea near Davao city, leaving the PAF with only one C-310 plane.  (+)

LEGARDA BATS FOR THE CREATION OF A JOINT LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION

    SENATOR Loren Legarda today batted for the creation of a Joint Legislative Tax Commission , a commission that will study, evaluate, and review tax measures and proposals.
    Legarda said the proposal as embodied in her Senate Bill No. 2485 is aimed at minimizing the delays associated with legislation and resolving differing views of various parties concerned in the system of taxation.   (+)

SEN COMMITTEE ON DEFENSE RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF AN INCREASED COMBAT PAY FOR SOLDIERS

THE senate committee on national defense & security today recommended the immediate passage of a proposed measure seeking to increase the combat duty pay of all enlisted personnel of the armed forces of the Philippines.
    Senator rodolfo biazon, chairman of the senate committee on national defense & security, said that his committee has voted to recommend that the combat duty pay of soldiers be increased to twenty-five per centum of their base pay.   (+)
